Dmytro has been a soldier since 2014, and he will defend the borders of our country until Victory. He dreams of a happy future for his daughters in a free country. Before the war, Dmytro worked as an electrician in Nikopol, but he did not hesitate to go and defend his homeland.

Over the years, he has worked in various areas and now holds the rank of captain and is the head of the civil-military cooperation group that worked on the front lines.

In October 2022, while on duty, Dmytro was involved in a terrible car accident. He suffered a serious fracture of the right thigh-bone, severe bruises, and internal bleeding. He fought for his life in intensive care for three days and then underwent surgery at the Lviv Military Hospital. Unfortunately, this was not enough for a full recovery. Dmytro could not walk for over a year.

Acquaintances advised him to reach out to the Dobrobut medical network. A team of surgeons, Bohdan Ryzhkov and Stanislav Lobach, headed by Vasyl Shmahoy, head of the orthopedic and traumatology department of the LDC hospital, performed a complex operation to replace the right hip joint.

“This surgery is considered one of the most complex in orthopedics and traumatology. The bone injury was old, over a year old, and we also had to take into account the metal fixators that had been installed. There could have been some nuances with this, but the operation went according to plan. My team and I installed a standard endoprosthesis, which will allow the soldier to fully recover within 2-3 months. Dmytro will be able to walk without crutches, run, jump, and work. At Dobrobut, we rehabilitate soldiers so that they can quickly return to military service,” Vasyl Shmahoy says about the operation.

Dmytro is now learning to walk again, rebuilding his muscles, and preparing to return to the front.

“I have the right to choose: to be discharged from the service or to return to work,” says Dmytro. “Of course, I will continue to serve. I want to be useful to people, because I have a lot of different military experience that I can share with the young people.”
